Default california laws questions

Hi had some question about california laws for anybody who lives in cali or might know the answer to my question. I have an 89 hatch that I bought with a b18a1 swap and before I could get a chance to find out about smog and get it in my name I got an emissions ticket which can only be signed off by a smog rep. I wanted to know if I sell this car then does that person have to take it to the smog rep still, if they have there own way of smogging it?

In California, the seller must smog any car more than 4 model years old before selling the car. If the car does not pass, then fix the car until it does pass.

If the buyer has a way of smogging it, ask him to get the guy to sign off on your ticket as well. Work that into the deal. Either way, I don't think he has to pay for your smog ticket. On paper, you can't sell your car unless the smog issue is resolved.

Does your ticket require just a regular smog tech or does it actually require a state referee? If it's the later, you won't be able to clear it for a while since the state referees are currently out of commission due to state budget cut.

You don't have to smog it before selling it, just tell the buyer they have to pay all the fees. As soon as your sent to the ref your done for. I don't know if you can make the b18 pass smog or not because its not like a fix it ticket where as you can just pay the ticket. So just hope you don't have to swap it back to a d series.

its all different now in the past you could easily get that reffed but now all the reff stations are closed, so i think it just needs regular smog now and a sign off on the fix it ticket by a cop if anyone out there has one, and a b18 will pass regular smog no prob if its running right, just look for a place that doesnt do a visual for the smog

actually i think they refs will be back very soon seeing as how i think i heard that he budget was passed this morning.
as far as cops signing off on the ref ticket, that aint gonna happen. you will most likely get extensions till refs are back n running. i

Well all the fees are payed up it just needed a smog. After I got the ticket everybody tells me they got guys who will smog it but I know it wont pass legally cause the guy I bought from just put it in and did enough so it would run and right now I don't got the money to bring it up to legit.

Well if all the asking for is a smog certificate, I know sum1 that'll pass it 4 $100 without the car being there. But if you ned to take it to the ref, they'll test it for smoke. But what is the ticket for?

From what happen to me with my ls/vtec when the map sensor was disconnected the car wouldn't even start. But then again if the car starts check your CEL cuz it should turn on.

if u wanna get rid off the car with out having to smog it u can go to the dmv and get it registered as a non-op race car ive done that more than once lol

and if u want to take it to the ref a b18a or b18b will pass aslong as u have the full legal stuff like stock intake stock exhaust full exhaust and make sure that its the stock cat cus i failed when i put a gsr cat on a ls swap and had to go bak 3 days later with a new ls cat even tho the gsr cat makes it cleaner...dumb i know

oh and i go to school where there is an on site state ref and i talked to one of my teachers and he said that the will be bak by the beggining or middle of next month (you can check on the dmv wbsite to see when they return to ur area i believe)...i need them bak my friend got a ticket for no ref sticker on a ls hatch and im driving a b16 rex and so is my girl and they are doing random check points here popping hoods and stuff by my house and school

what do I need to get it reg. as a non-op race car that sounds like a good choice cause I really don't wanna sell it? And off the subject can anybody give me some hp and 1/4 mile estimates with my setup it's a b18a1 with only one belt for the altenator with a b16 tranny 7lb flywheel stage 3 clutch b16 intake manifold and throttle body and a full 2 1/4in exhaust and 3" intake in a 89 hatch.

I'm on street tires and I'm faster than my buddy's camero z28 from a stand still to 80mph and my buddy's evo from a 15mph role to 80mph and he's boosting 35psi and got 5grand into his car does that sound normal? Would it be worth it to have the head ported? and maybe get some cams?

To get a non-op race car, just head to your local DMV, ask for a sheet to register your car as an non operational which is a $15 fee or a I belive its called a car built kit as well not to certain. I don't know if your friend with the evo knows how to shift. I have an 07 s2k and from the get go awd has a big advantage. Its at the long run when I start to hall them in. The camaro have massive torque eventhough I've also smoked them on the frwy to about 130mph because they start 2 reel me in. Yes, you have a way lighter car, but they have all the hp and tq to smoke you.

my buddies 91 was getting 9.9 ish in the 1/8th no 1/4 around here, he had the exact same setup, yeah he was dusting people, he had mild head work and crower springs retainers and stage 1 cams and it felt a little faster high end then stock but it didnt have the same torque, i would sugest those springs and retainers though, with stock cams it was nice
