can anyone give me a rundown on how to change my tranny fluid? i searched

Default can anyone give me a rundown on how to change my tranny fluid? i searched

ok just cannot locate my trans fluid dipstick on my manual 1997 prelude base. am i going to have to pump into it? if you have a link just post it up.

manual's don't have dipsticks, there is a check plug on the side of the trans. Not positive on 5th gens, but on 4th gens it's right behind the axleshaft on the passenger side of trans. I imagine they are similar between the gens..

ok so i know what i need to do...the only problem is the drain plug is a circle and i have no tool to get it loose. what should i be using?

you stick the 3/8" male end of the ratchet in the square.

you can fill it via VSS as well. Makes it a tad easier.

Yeah I fill via the vent hole sometimes too, especially with the Royal Purple squirter-shaped bottle top.

so u drain, level the car, drain some more, seal the drain plug and fill through the VSS ?

wheres the VSS, (vehicle speed sensor?)

I fill from the Filler plug. Filling from the VSS you could over fill, possibly.

The filler plug will have the tranny filled up to the proper level, and when you over fill it, the extra liquid will spill out of the hole

if you fill from the VSS, you OF COURSE need to leave the check plug out, so you know when it's at the correct level..

Its just extra work to remove the VSS to fill. I had to buy an adjustable funnel just so I could get the tranny fluid into the filler bolt hole.

i am gonna do my trans oil soon too so this info is useful!

i bought a oil syphon for $3 that i will use to pump the trans oil back into the transmission via the fill hole
