Default Block Guard

Is it possible to install a block guard without taking the whole motor out? Is it possible by just taking off the cylinder head.

When you install a block guard, it distorts the cylinder bores. The bores need to be machined round again. But if you so desire, you can pull the head and install the block guard in the car. Pound away

what do you mean by distorts the cylinder bores? So this shouldn't be done without re-machining it?

No, it really should not. What makes you think that a block guard is necessary for your application?

i dont see the point of ever using block guards, just spend a little more and get sleeves

unless your set up is stock dont need to do nothin to the cylinders

is a block guard even the same material as the block? if its not, then it will not have the same expansion properties as it is heated. end result? think about it.....

I have always thought that the block guard was a joke. Cylinder pressure and heat cracks sleeves, not side to side movement in the block. Several sleeving companies make theirs open deck just like honda does.

Where I work, we have done many 4-500whp turbo cars on stock sleeves with no problems.

A little more? A block guard only cost like 250 installed and thats with machining. Tell me where you can even buy just sleeves for that much.

i bought my raw sleeves from camp1320 back in 2004 for like $290.. they r not branded like darton or GE but i would still go for that sleeves than the block guard.

I agree that sleeves are better than a blockguard but to say that sleeves only cost a little more than a blockguard, is not quite accurate.
