You can tune on whatever fuel you like, BUT the higher the octane, the more power you can make. Higher octane fuels resist detonation better than lower grade fuel and can therefore support more boost, higher intake temps or higher compression.

so if i used lower fuel to tune and then i decided to go with 91 would that mess anything up or would i lose power? and if i tuned on like 87 will my turbo not last as long or something?

Tuning on 87 is not really a good idea and depending on what engine you have, may not be possible. GSR's (and i'm sure B16's) have a knock sensor built into the block. Simply running less than a 91octane on stock will cause them to knock. The ECU will drop timing off and your car will run like hell.

For the extra pennies per gallon, its worth your time and money to tune on the highest grade (other than race fuel) you can get at the pump. Look at it this way: you already put all kinds of money into a turbo setup, why cheap out on $.15/gal to run 87 vs 91-93?

I wish i would have...before i started my first setup (3 years ago) i asked around and everyone told me that it was impossible to tune w/ it. Now its all the rage. Up here in ND its at about half the fuel stations...come spring, i think i'm going to tune on it

If you're running 2psi, sell your turbo setup and go buy NAWZ stickers. They'll do about as much good...
