Default Chipping and tuning ECU's with hondata s200

How much would you think this should run. I bought a p72 and a hondata s200 to go with my swap. And the guy who runs a speed shop wants 800 bucks to chip and tune the ECU. Last week he told me it would be 600 bucks with the hondata system. How hard is it to chip your own ecu and get it ready for prep?

That's a ripoff.

The socketing should cost no more than $50, and a tune on a stock engine like that shouldn't be more than $250 or so.

I know its a rip. 600 bucks wouldnt be bad if I didnt have any hardware. Im really pissed off about that. Im never taking it to that shop again. Assuming I can find someone else.

You can send the ecu off to be socketed, but I'm sure you could find a shop locally that could do it. It doesn't necessarily have to be a car shop either, they just need to know how to solder and de-solder.

They are turning mabey 5 hours of labor into a 750 dollar bill. Well they got a complaint message from me, ********. Prob not gonna do anything, but Ill think when I get my car back from them, Ill do a BBB complaint. They are pretty good.

what tuning is involved? street and dyno tuning?

600 for a chipped ecu, hondata and dyno tuning is not that bad

tuning per hour is usually around 150-175 an hour depending on reputation and their ability.

if 800 includes street and dyno tuning....thats really not that bad. Street tuning takes a good bit of time.

what shop is it?

turbo tune in greensboro got the hondata stuff and everything for 450.00 assuming you have your own ecu and they charge 100.00/hr to tune.

In N.C. Yeah I think the gas bill to get there alone would match up to what this place is charging me.<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by h23vtecpowered &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">turbo tune in greensboro got the hondata stuff and everything for 450.00 assuming you have your own ecu and they charge 100.00/hr to tune. </TD></TR></TABLE> Not a bad rate though.

He already has the ecu and the hondata box. Socketing should be $50. The rest is a matter of plug-in and tune. Tuning shouldn't be more than $250 done on a stock engine, I doubt highly that they'll street tune it, but kudos if they do.
