1996 GSR, H/E with test pipe, So yea, when i do a hard pull everything is great 1 - 3 but if i hold through third and shift hard in to 4th, my engine light comes on, and vtec stops kicking in, also, when at highway speed, say 65 70, and i down shift to forth to get around someone or just speed up, dose same thing, any ideas what this might be? any input would help, thanks guys...

it might have something to do with you having a test pipe and the o2 sensor not reading correctly. you might be in limp mode, but i dont know why you arent in limp mode before 4th gear. try searching test pipe problems and o2 sensor problems.

vtec works off of oil pressure make sure that your oil level is good and your not loosing pressure anywhere

 

u might just be hitting the rev limiter

 

vtec is at 4400, nowhere near the rev limiter.

 

thanks, i think i may have a leak somewhere, there was a bit of oil on the block, looks like it was comming from the cam seal or behind the vtec noid. have to pull it apart today to see what happens, thanks guys.

Yup, my old hatch did the same thing after i swapped it, she was low on oil.

 

yea, i went to auto zone and had them pull codes, they didnt know much about them tho, anyone know where i can look them up?

 

what's the code?
