Background:

1999-2000

Went to put the stock si exhaust on my ex (went from a megan racing one) as I didnt want a loud exhaust anymore. Anyways, I bolted everything up (and hung all the hangers), but I ran into a problem. Its hitting the shift linkage making it basically impossible to move the shifter. I think its sitting to far foward, but dont know what to do to fix it. Any ideas?

**I have a short shifter, but I dont think that has anything to do with it**

its your short shifter...the lower part of the short shifter alot longer then the stock shifter..

 

i am willing to say the SI, B16, header is about 2-3 inches longer than the d16 header. i ran into the same problem in a del sol. it was a stock b16 Vtec and the motor was taken, so i swaped and I s waped an LS in. the exhaust on the car was like 2-3 inches too short. whichs shows the B16 header is longer.

 

I appreciate the replies guys. I thought I remember reading on here that an si exhaust fit an ex though?

Either way, which one is the problem, the shifter or the header?

 

i had a 00 si exhaust on my 96 4dr ex and it fit no problems at all..stock shifter...is there any flat spots on the exhuast pipes??? exhaust could be stretched out...

 

well, looking @ pics 1-5 it looks like it's part exhaust. first the tip is no where near the right spot, the muffler is was too close to the swaybay, and in pic 4 the exhaust pipe looks like it riding up on the body, kkinds like it needs to be pushed back (towards the rear) like 2 inches or so.

right exactly. And everything seems to be bolted up, so thats what im saying, besides the shifter, the exhaust needs to go back a couple inches, which leads us that that si header is longer? Otherwise, theres no other way to move it back right?

The si header is longer. So any ideas of what to do to fix my problem?

 

quickest way it to cut the mid-pipe and weld a little section in. that's what i had to do.

 

Or just use the old piping and the si muffler.

 

heres the wierd part though. Notice in this pic how the old muffler sat in (not all the way out):



Now, heres a pic comparing the old muffler to the si muffler (with both flanges lined up - not in pic - on the other side). This shows the si muffler to be shorter, in which case the tip would sit farther in, almost imitating that the fitment earlier was correct.





So, is the muffler part the same as the ex or longer too?

I just put in a short shifter in my 96 EX this december and it hits the exhaust, going back to stock shifter or a fastline performance one asap... my two cents... thought this might help. GL

yeah, but its not that it just sometimes hits the exhaust. You cant even move the shifter. Did someone look at the two pics I just posted?
