Using a coolant/oil cooled turbo only with oil???
Tried searching but found nothing on this. The turbo I have is a t25/t28. If anyone has done it before or has any info on it that would be great. I have heard about people upgrading from a coolant/oil cooled turbo to just oil, but the turbo only had bungs for oil. As mine has four bungs for what I'm assuming is two coolant and two oil. Thanks in advance as always guys.
Yes, you can run them with only oil but if you add the water lines the turbo will last longer! If you just don't have the flow now and wanna get it running, just the oil lines will work fine.
Im running mine without coolant , i just blocked off the ports . But it is now smoking , im not sure if the oils getting too hot and smoking because im not running coolant . But im also only running 5W-20 so ill probably switch to something thicker , so that might also be the problem . Hopefully someone will chime in that has an exact answer for you though .

The only real reason I was asking was to make sure I didn't "have" to. I really dont feel like splicing into coolant lines. But if it will make the turbo last longer I would do it. Thanks for all the great advice!

Why is it so hard for ppl to run coolant to the turbo if it has ports for them? Damn it's like 4 feet of hoses, and a few fittings... wth. It's like some ppl can install a turbokit, but are afraid to run water lines. The small amount that the water will heat up from going through the turbo FAR outweighs throwing the turbo life out the window.
