Default :: Quick Question: Suspension

I'm pretty new to this and I was wondering if there is a difference between coilovers and springs?

Also, I'm thinking about purchasing these:

What would you guys suggest? I dont have a lot of money so are they the best bang/buck?

Thanks, Chris

That's correct, but the link are not true coilovers. They are springs with coil sleeves that are adjustable. Ground Control, however, is probably some of the best of these kind, largely becuase they use Eibach springs as part of their assembly.

Those are pretty good if you're looking for adjustability with your ride height. Don't buy some cheap *** $99 coilovers from eBay though.

I guess what I'm asking is, before i buy these, what kind of suspension would you buy for that price?

H&R lowering springs are nice, just a lowering spring though..not adjustable. Comfortable ride too IMO.

it all depends on what you want this for. the more you spend, the more comfortable, reliable, and better performing they will be. ground control (like stated before) is a good brand. but you are paying for springs and coilovers. not shocks. so you will still have stock shocks. if you dont want to go all the way out, ground control coilovers with eibach springs is a very decent choice...but i would definately recommend saving up to do it right and get some decent shocks as well. such as koni.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Would it be possible to upgrade the shocks later? My current OEM shocks seem to be ok. However, if something were to happen to them later on, I would like the option to upgrade then.

(I enjoy AutoX, but I can't say I'm to serious into the sport)

Yes you can change the shocks/struts at a later time, but your ride isn't going to be as nice with the stockers. Ever see them lowered cars bouncing around as they drive (like a stagecoach)? It's more then likely due to a hack lowering job. (Heating the springs) or being to low on stock shocks/struts.
The stock shock/struts are longer and tend to bottom out on a lowered car causing the bouncing.
I'm not saying it's not impossible to drive like this. I see many on a budget do this because they want their car lowered asap. The stockers will last for a little bit (some more then others). But I'll agree with alacard. Save up for the shock/strut if you can wait and you will have a nice set up and only have to tear your suspension apart once
I've used the Eibach Pro Kit with KYB AGX shock/strut combo and they worked nice. (used springs off ebay for $90.00 shipped - New KYB's $300.00)
I currently have the H&R Sport with KYB AGX shock/strut combo and they work just as nice. (Came on the car when I bought it)
Good Luck on your searching for your set up.

Whew. The H&R equipped GS-R I rode in was brutal, but he had his shocks set pretty stiff. Otherwise, they seem to be nice springs.
