Default Replacing pistons/keeping stock rods?

I have JDm 2nd gen b16a, and i'll be putting my car away for the winter in a few months. So i have some ideas going through my head of what to do to my motor this winter. I was thinking of putting in some 11:1 pistons in and/or maybe bore it out alittle. So if i decide to just replace the pistons and rings I plan on keeping my rods. My question is when I dissassemble my motor, can i reuse my rod bearings and crank bearings. Cause i wanna avoid having to do the plastic gauge thing. I would really like to dissassemble it, take it to a machine shop have it honed or bored and then just put it back togther. How much can i bore it out and be safe? I did a search but didn't find and answer!!

Why not just go to the local junkyard get yourself a b18 block and build an ls/vtec i mean you have all winter so what the heck. And as far as the plastiguage i would def plastiguage it. Slap your b16 pistons on the ls/rods and you have yourself like an 11.3 compression motor.

Default Re: (HYBRID FREAK)

Has anyone replaced their rings or pistons and rings and reused all their bearings?

OR instead of doing anything to the bottom end what about getting my head milled or using a thinner head gasket?? If i get it milled how much do I take off?

Whats the best way to remove valve springs with the head still on the block without a compressor to put air into the combustion chambers??

i wanna figure everthing out before i start to do anything. If i decide not to redo my bottom end or mill the head i would like to just replace the valve springs, but I don't have a compressor. So i figured just remove the head and replace the springs and while its off install a thinner head gasket or get the head milled. I do all the work on my car myself. I put the b16a in my car, did all the suspension, did a mini-me before the b16 swap, cam swap, etc. So I wanna do the work myself. Just need some answers from you guys.

If you don't want to at least Plastigage, don't touch your block. You know how people are always posting stories about their bearings going out after only 1K miles or so? They didn't feel like Plastigaging either. You can reuse bearings as long as they're in good shape and still spec out alright. Of course, you have to actually check the clearances before you know if you can reuse them.

So, spend some time doing some research and build your motor correctly the first time.
