Pistons Quest.
i have a few questions when buying pistions
i have a LS motor CPR is low enough for boost but my rings are shot
and im just going to go ahead and get new rings, rods, and pistons
im going to shoot for lower CPR like 8:1
question is first off what matters when purchasing rods, pistons and rings?
what do i need to look at to make it all work together?
like rod length, piston head??
i see of these specs when looking at rods and pistons...i just don't know
what matters the most and what will work with my motor.
secondly if i do get 8:1 Pistons my motor is 9:? will i still be able to
run my car 8:1 without a turbo kit or not?

Re: Pistons Quest.
If you have an LS buy LS rods. Only time you need to worry about rod length is with a stroked motor with a large crank. When buying pistons get the CR you desire. Pistons will be labeled with the CR the hold. Of course if your milling the head or decking the block CR will be affected slightly. 8.0:1 CR is way to low IMO. I personally wouldn't go any lower than 9. The lower the CR is the more boost its gonna take to reach your desired goal. Anything under 10.0:1 CR is ideal for a boosted setup.

Re: Pistons Quest.
sweet thanks a bunch that helps me out alot
just to make sure i got this
LS rods..basically same rod length as my stocks
stick with the 9 CPR i plan on building the motor for strictly boost so
milling or anything should i even worry about?

Re: Pistons Quest.
H and I beam are going to be your best bet. Either or just depends on the manufacture. Eagles are H-Beam and Manley are I-Beam just to give you an idea.

Re: Pistons Quest.
yes i am using stock sleeves, not in less i should sleeve it...what is the difference?
i just want to make sure my motor is capable of holding a good amount of boost and a good amount of HP.

Re: Pistons Quest.
Well for 500 WHP I don't think its needed. The new bottom mount is divided but it better suites a STREET car since you can run an air filter. A divided manifold isn't needed period but it would leave you with an endless amount to grow. You could get one and run a smaller turbo and have great boost characteristics and one day decide you wanna go all out for 800+whp. The Borg Warner 83/75 would be a great turbo for a street/strip car. It flows 68lbs so it would be good for about 600-650. I would suggest a t3 topmount with a GT35R or something similar. That will easily reach your goal and some.

Re: Pistons Quest.
Go to evans-tuning.com, click on dyno library, then poke around. I'm sure you'll be surprised - many people run 'cheap' eagle rods and turbos with t3-sized turbines for 500whp. THe problem is 93 octane can only do about 450whp before it causes issues. Jumping to race gas will allow for more power from the same setup, and even E85 can crank out 500whp now on a decent t3 turbine setup. As mentioned, sleeves will be your biggest enemy over 400whp.
FYI there is a dyno there showing a GT30 doing ~500whp. You don't need a giant turbo to make power.

Re: Pistons Quest.
I don't think your ready to turbo your car. You need to research a lot more and familiarize yourself with a boosted b-series and what it entails. There are so many other things that are often over looked. A rock solid fuel system and proper engine management will be the most crucial part of your build. If your looking for reliability and plenty of power, build it right the first time. The advice we've given you still pertains to a LSV, nothing we've mentioned would change what your doing. You still need LS rods if your using an LS crank.
