not goin in reverse
the car will not go in to rearverse, well does the car sit outside in the driveway when it is cold out. Or it could just mean that you need to lub up the internal gear a little bit.
yeah, im guessing thats what he means...
sometimes on a cold start its a little hard to get it in reverse on my car, and thats pretty typical with a lot of hondas...
tell him to rev up a tiny bit and then try to shift it into reverse.. that works for me.

Will my B16 tranie did the same to. it will not go in to reverse so I got **** off and I rev my motor high and kick in the clutch and I push the shift really hard to reverse and let go off the clutch slowly and it grind and when in to reverse and after that no more problem. That how I fix my but it up to you I don't remmend if you don't know how to fix tranie.

It could need the 5th-reverse synchro set replaced. The set isn't that expensive, and at worst, you might also need to replace the diff bearings (and diff clearance reshimmed), input shaft bearing, and the 5th-reverse shift fork if any of that stuff is called for when you look at it.
As stated earlier, it helps to engage a forward gear first. First push in the clutch, put the car in first and let out the clutch until it starts to engage, then press the clutch back in and try reverse, works everytime for me. Then check the level of his manual transmission fluid (MTF), or better yet, drain it and replace with fresh Honda MTF.
And lastly, if you have the original tranny, as stated earlier it is a cable tranny, so try adjusting the clutch engagement point if it isn't at the height spec required. Sometimes its a combination of low MTF with a poorly adjusted clutch and worn syncros from a 15 yr old tranny will make it really hard to get into reverse, but by using a forward gear first, which will become a habit, it usually will slip right in.
