Default fuel pump kill switch

alright i read a tutorial on how to make one for cars and such and it said u need a 12V/30A relay... but i was thinkin why cant i just splice the power wire to the switch??

so i tried it and it works fine... but is this dangerous.. will it cuase damange if i dont use a relay?

It should work okay, but ideally you would want a relay...

but why is the relay needed/wanted?
