Hey guys,

I spent most of yesterday afternon assembling my motor. When I got to the part where I had to install the head onto the block I used my ARP stud kit and the ARP moly lube. I used the ARP moly lube on the bottom portion of the stud that goes into the block. However I didn't use any moly lube on the top threaded portion where the stud nut screws onto. I read that you can install the stud kit dry, or with no lube, you just have to change your torque settings. Do you guys think I'm fine with no ARP moly lube on the top threaded portion of the stud? or should I go back and redo it and use some ARP moly lube? the cam caps, and cams are already installed so I dont wanna have to go through all that again.

Let me know what you guys think

 

i always thought that you were NOT supposed to put any type of lube on the bottom threads. they go in dry.

also the spec sheet that comes with the stud kit should say what torque spec to use if you use engine oil instead of moly. i "think" its 80ft/lbs with oil. and 70ft/lbs with moly

 

I talked to Earl about it and he said that it doesn't hurt to have a little ARP moly lube on the bottom threads. I'm gonna check with ARP on Monday morning to see what they have to say about installing studs with no ARP lune on the top threads. I dont wanna redo my head, cause that means it'll set me back another day.

 

ummm... i just let mine sit in a quart of un-used oil until i install them. never ever used any type of lube nor did i have any prblems at all

 

I did Lube my bottom threads, that's what the lube is for. It's not there for nothing.

With the lube i torqued mine down in 3 steps to 81 ft/lbs as the manual stated.

ummm...the ARP studs can be lubed with ARP moly lube or 30wt oil. So ummm...yeah.

I used 5w30 and 75ft/lbs on my friends motor and have had no probs after 1500-2000 miles

sorry for my other statement, i've used loctite on the bottom threads.

I have an H22a and i think the ARP manual said 81 ft/lbs
