ive got a 94 civic hatch with a b16 sir motor and im trying to decide on a tranny. but im not sure if i want to go with the cable or hydro trans. any suggestions and reasons why you picked the particlular one would be great!

 

hydro is better because its easier to drive and has better control of the clutch.

 

i bought a civic with a cable and its the first cable i ever drove. its not bad but id go with hydro

hydro is better, more expensive but better. you also have more gearing options as
most of the better performance geared b series trannies are hydro.

 

but as for clutch feel i'd have to say the cable tranny is better cuz you can actually
feel the clutch engagement through the cable very well, and thats what i like about it. cable trannies are harder to drive than hydro trannies though.

 

I like the hydro better. I've had both in my sol. When installing a cable tranny in the hydro cars you loose the front torque dampener on the tranny. This gives the engine/tranny assy. more sway and is also harder on the other mounts. It makes the car jerky on hard take offs and shifts. The two positive things that a cable tranny has is the price and the stiffer clutch feel.

If you get the 92-93 cable tranny they have the same internals as the hydro trannys, just a different clutch actuator. The 92-93 gsr cable tranny has a very close gear ratio, comparable to that of a SI or newer GSR hydro tranny. I don't have the exact ratio on hand but I believe it's closer to that of the SI.

 

Hydro for sure, much better feel...

 

CABLE man............you can actually feel THE CLUTCH! but i have to agree hydro tranies are more expensive but you have way better gearing options.......damn JDM cable trannies
