Turbo wont spool past 4 psi
Ok, just as the title says my 94 del vtec is turbocharged, however i cannot get it to boost past 4 lbs. I purchased the vehicle last year with the turbo already installed. It only boosted to 4 then as well. I figured that was how the previous owner wanted it setup but once i did some tinkering i found i could not get any more boost out of it. The turbo kit is supposed to be a drag kit. It was installed 6 years ago. I have the receipt for the install. The turbo starts to spool at 2500 and gradually hits 4 psi at 6000. Here's what i've tried so far. I have a turbonetics deltaII wastegate. I Thought it may be opening too early so i shimmed it shut. With the wastegate shimmed shut the engine responds the same as when i had the 7lb spring in it. This leads me to believe the wastegate is remaining closed. With the wastegate removed and shimmed shut i tried to blow air through it. I couldnt find a leak, however thats not a lot of pressure. I just tested the charge pipes for a leak and couldnt find one. I capped the pipes right after the turbo and right b4 the intake mani and pressurized them to 18 psi. I then took a spray bottle w/ a soap solution and sprayed every couple. I have 2.25 exhaust, would that be too restrictive? I believe i have a t3 to4 hybrid turbo. The turbo side reads ar .50, m43 L. I'm not sure if thats the turbo that came with the kit. I took off the intake pipe and spun the shaft. I found no shaft play. Any suggestions would be helpful. I'm starting to believe that the turbo is just too damn big for my engine.
yea use 50 dollar and buy a manual boost controller or take off the nut from the waste gate and screw the screw hella down cuz i have the same waste gate with a 7 pound spring before i got my boost controller i got 11 psi out of it some how and i only had a 11 pound spring
have you check for leak between manifold and head or manifold and turbo. I had a gasket between manifold and turbo that kept on blowing so i took it out no more leak

Thats what happened to my gasket as well I think. Have to take it apart and Im just going to leave it out as well. It leaks too much

How big is your exhaust? I had the similar problem once apon a time and it turned out that my cat was causing a huge restriction that wouldn't let me build any more than 6lbs of boost. Took the cat off and went for a ride open down pipe and my boost shot way up.
thanks for the input. I guess no one thinks its the turbo then? I think i'm going to take my cat off tonight and see how it runs then. As for an exhaust gas leak i read that a leak of that nature would be absurdly loud and i would notice it. Any more thoughts?

Fixed it. Turns out it was the cat after all. I didnt know those could be so restrictive. Anyway, thanks for all the help, now i need to find a shop that will weld me a test pipe...
