I want to run a braided line from the compressor housing of my turbo to the lower port on my Turbosmart 48mm gate. The turbo compressor threads are 1/8 NPT and the turbosmart threads are 1/8 BSPT. The problem is I cant find any company that sells a 1/8 bspt to -3 an fitting. Would it be ok to use a 1/8 NPT and just thread it until tight? Or should I rethread the gate to 1/8 NPT??

I also was messing around at work and ran a 1/8 NPT male thread through a 1/8BSPT die and tried threading that into the threads on the gate and it didnt thread very smoothly I assume due to the taper.

Any suggestions? I just dont want to melt and vacuum lines to my wastegate.

from there just get two 1/8npt to -3 adapters, and like taco bell, you're good to go

Another question would be how accurate would the boost signal be after the intercooler. When running the vacuum line right next to the manifold and compressor it gets very hot. I would feel much safer tapping on the charge pipe after the intercooler. ANyone do it this way?

anyone using an after intercooler boost signal to the wastegate??

Also I got an email from Turbosmart saying that they reccomend the -4 over the -3.

 

hey, braided lines are still rubber within, why would this eliminate your fear of melting the rubber line? it is just curiosity because my lines get real hot as well. i run mine from compressor housing :X gets hot!

 

BSPT and NPT are the sameexcept BSPT uses rounded threads. The taper & thread pitch are the same.

I've always run *homemade* BSPT adaptors that are just NPT run through a BSPT die. Never had any leaks or problems (knock on wood).

Bspt has 28 threads per inch and NPT is 27 threads per inch. Not a huge difference though.

I realize that braided line is rubber hose inside.

I think what i will do is run a -4 brake line of desired length and buy the corresponding fittings for compressor housing and wastegate.

 

I always ran my wastegate off the intake manifold. If you do that, you'll be running a little more boost because the intercooler's pressure drop will be seen by the wastegate and you'll end up running closer to what the spring is as opposed to spring-pressure drop.

 

But then the WG will remain closed at partial throttle, until the IM pressure is the set pressure. I think by running it immediatly before the TB you would get the higher boost you are looking for with more throttle control, since the charge pipe will be held at the desired pressure.

 

is that such a good thing with smaller turbos? i know mines .48 a/r and my wg opens too fast. for on the streets i'd love delayed wastegate response. that or in 5th gear it chatters, ugh, nasty.

 

They are plastic inside not rubber. And they are still rated for alot higher temp and pressure than regular rubber hose. Muckman WG Kit

Just throw this in the mix for you as well. It is from Auto-Meter. It is 1/8 NPT to 1/8 BSPT. Then you can go regular 1/8 NPT to -4AN out of the wastegate.

I looked into that fitting a few days ago. The problem is... it' a 1/8 npt male to 1/8 BSPT female. The threads on the gate are female 1/8"bspt

I need the opposite lol a 1/8 bspt male to 1/8 npt female.

I did find a 1/8 bspt male to -4an fitting though.
