stock ls/vtec turbo
Can i run a stock ls/vtec turbo with arp rod bolts and and rev to 8k? I only plan to run 6 psi until i build a ls block but until then this was my plan. I have heard of people running stock ls and gsr blocks on low boost and making mid 200 hp so i was wonder if this can work for me with the above stated and maybe a cometic head gasket. Thanx for the help I'm trying to have this thing together by the end of the summer i got everything to go ls/vtec except the vtec kit. So i was gonna put the head on my stock block and then bolt on the turbo by the end of the summer.
Im pretty much in the same boat as you--I blew my gsr block at the end of last year---threw together a ls/vtec until the gsr block is built--
golden eagle conversion kit
golden eagle block guard
arp headstuds
no dyno #'s and its not tuned--went 13.30 @105 5-6psi

Well, i'm running a stock ls/vtec turbo setup and rev to 8k rpm all day long. The block is completely stock at 12 lbs of boost. I dyno at 261whp and 212 lbs of torque. A good tune will do wonder for you. I do have arp head stud though. You should be okay to 8k on stock rod bolts if you have a good tune.

Hey redturbocivic. What's your setup?? Tony tune my car on neptune, but my stock greddy dp and 2.5" catback was holding me back. I'm probably going to bring the car back to dallas after I get the 3" dp and catback.
i was just making sure. i have arp head studs and rod bolts just wonder if the was anything else i need in anticipation of boost. Like a metal haedgasket like a cometic or for all you mid atlantic people a inline pro gasket.

honestly, im not going to tune it! my gsr build is complete and awaiting to be dropped in---currently running 440's and vafc hack
when i have it 10 psi w/ 110 oct...feels much faster then gsr did
(if i was to guess, 325ish)
dont be scared to rev it

i think this motor will take alot more abuse than you think it will. i have a stock LS/vtec and will be turbo in a couple of weeks. i will try to get about 250-300 hp out of it and i have a stock headgasket and all. and you could rev to 8k all the time. i actually was eerie of the same thing you are called Tony and asked him what he thought and he confidently said to rev to 8k n/a or boost.

uhh correct me if im wrong but you mentioned 3 OBD2 parts and asked if you could use them together, right? or did you mean one of those things actually isnt?
all OBD parts would be best, they all work together and plug in together. i use a knock sensor.
