Default Dx tranny vs Ls tranny.....

So i got my D15B swapped in but i'm using my d15b7 "out of 94 dx coupe" tranny... From what i'm aware of its smart to put an LS tranny on motors that well eventually become turbo because of the long gears... Well if im planning on turboing my d15b, should I keep the B7 tranny on there for the longer gears, or go with the shorter Z6 or Y8 tranny for better VTEC...????

yeah sorry if i gave you the "***" approach but you cant put a bseries tranny on a dseries motor. try doing the Ls swap if you want to boost later in teh future.

I think he is just comparing the trannys, he wants to know if he should keep using the tranny in his car dx or get a sohc vtec tranny? I would say get the z6 tranny.

i agree with him. i would definately go with the z6 tranny. long gear sucks for a sohc even if its boost or not.

thats exactly what i was doing... i didnt mean puttin a b18b tranny on my d15b i meant comparison wise... for the long gears should i keep my DX since i plan on turbo, or should i get the Z6 for the better vtec route...

truuu, thats what i figured... im tired of racing people an only ever having to go til 3rd gear hahaha.. i mean i still am pullin on peeps a bit, but what kinda difference u think it'll make from b7 tranny to z6...??? is it a big change, or is it just better since its shorter gears..??

In my opinion the shorter the better, the z6/y8 are identicial and the shortest..unless you make a hyrid tranny..and its a big difference especially when come from a cx tranny like me..

I ran both trannies at the track and found that they were essentially identical (quarter mile time wise), however my Z6 did grind a bit so that might have offset my times. Emerika said the B7 to Z6 switch was worth .6 seconds, from my experience I would say its worth .1 maybe .2 seconds.

Thats about right.

Here is the difference between EX, DX/LX, and CX/VX at 7200 RPM

CX/VX Transmission:
46 - 85 - 140 - 175

DX/LX Transmission:
37 - 68 - 102 - 132

EX/Si Transmission:
35 - 60 - 91 - 126

so all in all, the ex/si tranny is just shorter gearing it's not a huge performance upgrade?
