I do some search and the answer are not always in the same direction.

I'm building a simple B20/vtec : b20b bloc with B16a2 head.

the bloc is stock and the head is stock and just milled a little bit (0.003 inch !?!?)

I have SIR head stud but I think ARP will be use in the setup.

The question is about the valve clearance. Some body told that it will clear with b16 cams and stock timming, some other told that it will not clear at all. I want to know if the valve will clear with SIR cams and no timming adjustement.

It will run on JDM P30, and I don't want to rev it to 8200rpm

You shouldnt have any problems, especially if that is where you are revving to. I would use a chipped p28 ecu though. They just run better... Ive never personally used a p30 before but i know the p28 ecu runs better than a gsr (p72) ecu, at least on my setup... as far as valve clearances, i believe you should be able to use stage one cams from most manufacturers and still be ok... good luck with your setup...

Save yourself the headache and buy some JE or other brand B20VTEC pistons. The valve reliefs are already cut for VTEC sized valves.

An added bonus is the extra compression you will gain by not using those low compression B20B Pistons.

 

you can find a nice set of forged pistons for decent prices these days that will always outperform the stock piston. the stock B20 piston doesnt give you enough compression to make any decent power.

i would recommend a set of 84mm wiseco 11.5:1CR pistons. there pretty affordible and very good qualitly and with 11:1+CR you can make good power for a everyday driven car.

I know that I can find aftermarket piston for b20vtec, but I want to run the setup with B20B piston for this summer. I just want to know if it's safe or not. If not, I will wait a little bit and buy wiseco pistons

you can run CTR ITR cams on a B20 with stock piston and be fine


just dont mess with the cam timing.

nope, no clearance issues

PHX and P3F pistons both will clear with no problem with CTR or ITR pistons with the cam gears set at 0,0.

 

My b20b have ITR cams, and stock 8.8 pistons notch

The head is removed why not notch it now?

If your upgrade your cams latter it won't be a good time to lift the head another

Well, it would be pointless to notch them because he wouldnt know what cams to put in, how much to notch them etc

Vtec head use intake valve 2 mm larger, just notch the pistons to accept those valves

better safe them sorry, I notched and I'm using CTR cams.

 

i am using GSr cams and stock b20b pistons and i have no problems.

 

They will clear with only .003 off of the head, I notch the piston valve relief for added clearence on thinner gaskets and more milled heads.

The only problem with forged pistons is that you can't run them tight. They will tend to clatter and wear out fast, which is not an ideal situation on a daily driver.
