Default Sleeved block o ring replacement?

I want to see if anyone has run into the problem I am dealing with. I replaced my o rings on my sleeved block using 18 gauge "soft" copper wire as Golden Eagle suggested. They said I should be able to get the wire from any hardware store. The issue is how tall should the o rings be to provide propper seal with out preventing the headgasket to seat properly? Golden Eagle was unable to tell me. I am about to just buy their copper wire and redo it but at this point it is a matter of time and I really don't want to get their wire re o ring the block and find out the gasket still isn't seating. I know it is a long shot that anyone would know but if you do let me know.

tap the wire in the groove until it is sticking out about .010" and then hand stone it flat to about .005"-.007"
