Are you sure that your oil return line is done preoperly? I had the same problem and just had it replaced last night and a quick blast up the road seems to suggest that it is now OK. I guess I need to put more miles on it just to be absolutely sure.
If you are sure your new oil return is good (got a pic of it?), and it still smokes slightly then it could just be the residual oil that is already in the downpipe from before just burning off.

Im pretty sure the return is ok. I redid it and it is as high as it will go. The pipe into the sump touches the flange. When i took the turbo off no oil cam out of the return pipe so i dont think it is that. I thought it might just be residue but its done near 100 miles on the new seal so i would have thought it would have cleared it. What grade oil are you using? people ive spoke to seem to agree 5/40 is a little thin. Should be more like 15/50.
