Y8 / Y7
whats up HT got a few questions maybe someone can help me out. .
i own a 97 civic y8 / y7 mini me 5-speed so yeah ima just shoot em out. .
car is running sluggish, always has been since the day i bought it.
when ur driving and come to a stop or throw it in neutral the car will idle all the way to the lowest point on the tac and sometimes even die. CEL is working, but not on. it was on. . came up knock sensor changed the sensor and it seems to be running alot better then it was but still not as great as it should be. also, there is an oil leak comming from somewhere on the car. . seems to be like its comming from where the timing belt is if you look at it from underneath the car, anyone have any input on what that could be?
any info. would be great thx

Have you kept up with the maintenance? done a tune-up? checked anything?
check the ignition system condition, check the oil condition, check the compression for good measure. check the timing and idle speed. you're likely to see some irregularity if you check these things.
what specifically was the code it threw?

ive done all the maintenance. plugs, wires, cap, rotor, distributer, oil + filter, air filter, fuel filter, pcv valve, thermostat + gasket, valve cover gasket, brakes and about 75% of all the hoses / clamps on the car.. also changed FITV and IACV...
took the car to a garage and they told me the oil leak is comming from my front crank seal. garage wanted $1,000 - $1,300 to do the seal, timing belt and water pump. ive searched online and it seems to be maybe a hour - hour and a half job so why the F*^# does the garage want so much to do it? ive done a HG before on these cars and it took me a little more then a hour to do. im not really a mechanic but i can change most things on a car..
does anyone think this is a DIY job? is it hard to do? do i have to take the engine out? do i need to take a mount off? i have a D16Y8 head and D16Y7 block are the seals the same?

from what ive searched this is pretty much what i have to do correct me if im wrong..
take off valve cover
take off top timing cover
jack up the car and take off driver tire
take off harmonic balancer
take off bottom timing cover
loosen tensioner and take off timing belt (time the car before taking off belt)
this is where i get lost. is there a crank pulley to take off? if so is that where the seal is located?
obviously replace the water pump(loosen bolts and put new one on)
put new belt on, tighten the tensioner
put harmonic balancer and covers back on and thats it?
is this pretty much the general way to do it or is there something im missing?
