Swap insurance question
i know that a majority of people oin this board have engine swaps, and i had a question about insurance. I own a EP and am looking to swap a K20A2 from a type S. Do insurance companies go off the block number? If i didn't report my swap to the insurance and i happened to crash would they deny my covereage because of the different engine? I know they wouldn't cover the motor and that doesn't really worry me. Its just the fact that i have a new car and don't wanna be SOL if someone rear ends me or somthing.
don't ask don't tell bro. they have to cover your car regardless of the motor, just don't tell them or they will hike up your rates. i doubt they will cover the motor obviously in an accident but the rest of the original car they are required to. besides how did you know you had a swap done in the car when you bought it? they covered me in my car even though it was swaped up.
Tell them you are thinking about adding a few after market parts... (not any stereo equipment or they will rip you off fast)... and see what they have as far as extra coverage. I asked them about it and for $7000 extra (that means if it is totaled I get 7000 in addition to the value of the car) and they told me it would be around $50/month extra. Not a huge amount, but I don't have best recorded and my car was stolen once, so you may have better luck.
