rules of thumb? 6g d16y nonvtec into 5g d16z vtec
I'm replacing a civic's 200k 5g d16z6 vtec with a 6g d16y nonvtec block.
I'll be using the fuel rail, alternator, and distributor, etc from the 5g d16z.
I don't know what to do about the 5g vtec solenoid/ecu.
Should I run with a 5g non-vtec ecu? or can I get a way with simply diabling the vtec solenoid? or what? I know the easy answer would be "run w/ a vtec", but that's not an option.

just get a DX or LS 92-5 ecu (p06 or p74)...they are dirt cheap .....CX ecu will also work but it simply sucks....
other options are:
1.) slap your complete head on top of the block....
2.)reuse the intake manifold with a DX or LS ecu
if you run your old ecu there will be 2 codes (vtec namely)
also if not then trade with me i'll give you a P06 and you give me your p28 (sohc vtec ecu..)

Thanks eg6ajk,
I'll be selling the 6z ecu in the next few weeks, I'll give you dibs and
a nice discount ~ $110 incl. shipping if you'd like.
Along these same lines, I assume a header designed for a d16z
will bolt up to a d16y? correct? The exhaust manifold bolt pattern/size appears to be the same..
Thanks again

yup the header will work, how come u just don't use the vtec head on the non-vtec block?????
