matching up ECU with motor... question..
Ok, If i have an OBD1 motor, but I put on an OBD2 tranny. What ECU would I need? OBD1 or OBD2?
Here's what's going on. I am buying an LS motor off a friend, I am pretty sure it's OBD1, but I am going to look at it later this week. I also found a fellow HT member selling an LS tranny. It's off a '98 LS so it's OBD2. I was told the two would work together, but not sure about which ECU. I drive a '99 Hatchback.

ECU has nothing to do with what year manual transmission that you're running. If he has a newer 98 transmission, then get that rather than an older 94-95 tranny. If it was an auto tranny, then the sensors & solenoids may be different, but then the ECU still doesn't control it, the ATC/ATM does.

Run the ECU to match your motor. There are more sensors on an OBD2 motor (crank angle sensor, second O2 sensor) that won't be on an OBD 1 motor. If you're running an OBD2 ECU on an OBD1 motor, the ECU will be looking for feedback from sensors that aren't there! Now I'm sure it is possible to convert an OBD1 motor to OB2 by adding the needes wires, but save yourself the trouble and get a harness converter to run the OBD1 ecu in your EK harness.
