Default engine running very rich

hey guys, i bought my car (91 teg GS) earlier this year and the previous owner did a ls/vtec conversion. He used a jdm b16a head. In Vancouver BC, we have to go thru air care (smog check) and i found out that my car is running very rich. after being unable to fix the problem, i took it to a shop and now they are pretty much out of ideas.

The car has a pr3 ECU, stock wiring harness. For some reason, there is no signal coming back from the MAP sensor. Putting a new MAP sensor in made no difference. If anyone has any ideas or has had this experience before, i need your help! thanks

I guess the question I have is how rich is rich, cuz w/o see it, and if given the car is idling fine and running clean, and tune-up maintance is up to date, then I can only suggest a fuel regulator, try putting one on and see if its something you can lean out. Otherwise try a different ECU.

Hope that helps, I have a simular issue on my B20 Vtec, but that becuz I upped my fuel pump. Good luck!

Does the check engine light stay on? I would assume it is since there is a problem with the MAP. Have you or the shop tried to check and see what codes are stored? If replacing the MAP and ECU doesn't do anything, then chances are there is something wrong between the wiring from the MAP to the ECU.

i dont remember what code it is, but it's either 3 or 5, the ones that indicate MAP sensor.
There is no problem with Vaccum pressure, and there's no problem with wiring between the ECU and the MAP sensor. Both have been checked.

Are there any differences between the pr3 and the stock pr4 ecu in terms of the pins for the MAP sensor?

I had the same problem with my 94 ls. Tryed everything come to find out it was the map sensor. I'd test yours out and see if that is the problem

mushashi is rite, fuel pressure regulator dood. my buddi had this problem with an aftermarket one on his RHD CTR. and i the same on my ZC wagon. put a new stock b16 regulator on. and check your catalatic, it might be punched out or even just a test pipe. that would let some unburned gas out.

Check your Map sensor wiring... if the previous owner spliced the wires, it might be cut, since you say you're getting no signal.

Also if you have a cat... it might be clogged up.
