Default d16y8 block with d16z6 head.. have a few parts compatability questions

long story short:
the people that assembled my z6 jacked up my block, to tight of piston to wall clearence, no plastic guagine done on the bearings.
so my z6 block is ruined with only 350 miles on it.

i bought a y8 block.
i want to swap all my internals to the y8 block.
i have a new oil / water pump, timing belt and head studs from the z6

my question is:
will the z6 oil pump fit on the y8? i know they are alittle different (oil dip stick position is different between the two blocks)
will the z6 water pump work on the y8?
what about the timing belt?
will i be able to use the headstuds from my z6 motor on the y8? ( i hear you have to get the studs for whatever head your using.. ie.. z6 studs for z6 head and y8 studs for a y8 head.. can anyone confirm this?)

any other info that you think might be helpful, please post it.
hopefully someone has done this before, and can help me.
thanks for everyones help,

kelly

Hi Kelly, I'm in the process of building a Y8 block (sleeved)/Z6 head combo.

I have spent almost $300 in new parts to build the Y8 block with new parts because the z6 pieces were not the same. Anyhow, I'm fairly certain of the following:
-Waterpumps are interchangeable (However, my Y8 pump had a different gear than the Z6 pumps
-Left Cover (Clutch side) - NOT the same
-Oil Pump - NOT interchangeable (Dipstick, etc are mounted to the pump)
-Right Cover (Covers oil pump) - Not the same
-Crank timing gear - Not the same - Y8 one has notches for a crank timing sensor - I'm not sure if you can use the z6 one (the Y8 one is about 8$)
-Oil Breather can - same
-OIL PAN - Beware of this - Y8 pans are needed with Y8 pumps for as the bolt spacing on the oil pump side is different. I believe that you can redrill a Z6 pan to work, but not sure. ALSO, The engine stiffeners (tranny side and bolt onto tranny) actually Bolt up to the OIL PAN. MY Y8 Block did NOT have the holes Predrilled to use the Z6 stiffeners.
- Head studs- If you use the Y8 Block, use Y8 Studs.

I wish you Good luck in your build, but I HONESTLY BELEIVE that you should re-sell the Y8 block and get another Z6 block, as it will cost less than having to buy new parts. I've been there, and I have kicked myself over getting the Y8 sleeved block, then realizing I had to get everything else new...

Also not to plug my stuff, but I have 2 Bare z6 blocks for sale. These will need to be bored 0.10 or 0.20 oversize, so it depends if you have oversized pistons already but buying these or any other bare Z6 blocks will be easier, and cheaper than getting all the stuff from a Y8...
