CEL code #9 with OBD1 swap, never had this code before
hey i finished the swap over the w/e and for the first hour there weren't any CEL codes, then code #9 popped up.
here's the setup, it's pretty simple:
94 LS with original B18B engine harness (uncut)
94 GSR block (11:1 C/R)
90 SI head (rebuilt, all stock)
OBD1 dist. from 95 GSR
VTEC wires w/plugs and pins added to correct spots
P28 ECU with one of Kenji's programs (GSR w/Skunk2 IM chip)
i've never had the #9 code come up before. and i'm wondering why it didn't come up til over an hour after the motor was running in the car? and i'm not even sure where this senser is located really, the #1 cylinder position sensor (CYP Sensor)??
maybe there is something i'm missing, but everything looks ok. it could be a faulty sensor or wire that i can't tell yet.
any thoughts on this... thanks

check wires on distributor, make sure everything is hooked up, otherwise, try swapping distributors with someone

so i guess the problem is still there, whatever it is exactly. all the wires were hooked up last i checked, but it won't hurt to go back over it again to be sure.
i'll do that tomorrow. in the meantime i'm open to any other thoughts or experiences.
thanks

ok code is gone now. no CEL's at all with the new GSR dist.
but i'm wondering now how to fix or replace the CYP sensor on the 95 GSR dist?
can it be replaced?
i've never worked on the internals of a dist. yet so i thought i'd ask before doing so. the only thing i've done is remove/replace the one coil and tap into the wires for an MSD system. i'm not even sure where the CYP sensor is located and if it can be fixed/replaced.
thanks for any input

The cylinder position sensor (code 9) isnt something that can be easily replaced (to my knowledge). Distributors are put together very well, and taking them apart is a major pain, might not even be possible with your "normal" set of tools. I tried once and just gave up and replaced the whole dist. Hence the reason I suggested you swapped distributors.
Anyways, hope this helped and good to hear your car is working properly now

Re: CEL code #9 with OBD1 swap, never had this code before (Shift!)
yeah i'm glad the 94 GSR dist. fixed the problem for my GF's car.
but now i'm stuck with the "bad" dist. for my motor whenever i get it together.
that's why i was interested in how to fix or replace the CYP sensor, if it can be done at all. we bought the 95 GSR dist. from someone here on H-T a couple months ago and haven't used it until now. so i guess we were sold a faulty dist. that sucks but hopefully i can fix it or find another one at a good price that actually works 100%.
thanks for your replies.
