Default CEL 20 & 36 GSR swapped 98 ex

Hey, I'm having some reallly rough idle with my freshly swapped GSR in my EJ8, I just swapped the dizzy to a Type-R one because the one that came with it was ODB1 and threw a whole bunch of codes after i cut and spliced the wiring.

My question is how do I fix the CEL codes 20 and 36 that I got from jumping the service connector , apparently electrical load detector (I already checked fuse 15 in the under-dash fuse box), and 36 which is something about a JDM traction control found...

Please help me, I really want to get this car running... it's been 2 months since I've started this swap

Ohhh, its running on a chipped usdm P28, with a gsr base map (not sure if b18c1 or b18C), the engine is a JDM B18C

What chip did you buy?

Code 20:

Code 36: can be corrected by getting a non-traction control ECU

The engine came with it, and when it was in the EG that the swap came from it had no cel's at all.
I believe the chip is an SST?
I don't get it though, p28's don't have traction control, especially since it was flashed with a gsr base map?

Hmmm, I found it but can't seem to figure out how to remove it, it's practically stuck in there.

I just swapped out the chipped p28 for an actual p72 odb2 gsr ecu just now, and it's showing codes for secondary O2 (& ckf...damnnit) which makes sense because I didn't plug mine in since i was running the odb1 p28 earlier... I'll fix these and see if it clears the issue.

CKF you can bypass, and the secondary O2 you can fix. Why not use the OBD2 P72 ECU?

But you are right there is no reason why you should not be able to run the P28 ECU. I am running my JDM B18C on a P28 tuned on Chrome with no CEL issues. I also run my OBD2 P73 ECU for smog checks.

A buddy of mine just recently gave me it and i forgot that I had it. Originally I was attempting to just make everything work to ODB1 spec, got it running and drive-able, but i want absolutely no codes (got mild OCD or something like that lol).

Yeah its 2 quick splices on the "C" connector, I'll be doing that shortly & I'll jack up the car and plug my o2 in, hopefully this will be the end of this nightmare of a swap, oh then timing.

^Thanks buddy, it's stressful..

I just plugged in my odb2 o2, fixed the CKF/CKP and now it's throwing code 22 for VTEC pressure switch....

You need to bypass that too. JDM variants don't care about oil pressure for VTEC engagement. It's another easy bypass like the CFK trick. If I remember correctly its bypassing the VTEC pressure switch by bridging it with the VTEC solenoid lead at the ECU. Don't quote me on that it's been 2 years since I did it. (Also since you're tapping into the VTEC solenoid lead anyway this would be a good opportunity to install a VTEC light) I installed mine into the dash, it's a "nice-to-have"

Alright I looked it up. I don't know what ECU you are using OBD2A or B so I got both:

OBD2A A8 (green/yellow) bridged with C15 (blue/black)
OBD2B B12 (green/yellow) bridged with C10 (blue/black)

You can verify on ffsquads site http://www.ff-squad.com/technet/wiring.obd2b.htm (OBD2B)

The P72 i have is a ODB2a, jeeesus christ. How many bypasses does this thing need haha.

I'll be doing that tomorrow, on another note my idle is all over the place, ecu is throwing no codes after i reset it (probably because i haven't tried to hit VTEC yet). I cleaned out the IACV with TB cleaner & re-installed, no change.

Going to open my FITV and see if the assembly had backed out or not, when i rev the engine it sounds like a boxer motor. Verrrry rough tone & stalls after struggling to stabilize idle @~100 revs...can't even do timing because the revs keep jumping and stalling

You may have a vacuum leak somewhere, if not then check if your mechanical timing is correct, and try backing off your ignition timing (rotate the distributor) and see if it stabilizes at all.

Hey sorry, I got fed up with trouble shooting and moving sideways.. I took the car to my shop and got it running as smooth as possible, compression from cyl 1-4: 150-150-150-100
So when these rings give out I'll go b20v.

Thanks a lot for the input man, really appreciate it
