Default build d16 or swap?

I have a '95 civic ex with 130k running 15.7 1/4 with only i/e. I want to get some faster times. I was wondering if building my d16 with crower rods and JE pistons with lower compression and running high boost (alcohol cooled with fmic) would be easier/cheaper/ and give me faster times then swapping in a b16a or other engine (keep in mind, money is a concern). And is there anyway to swap heads from another engine to the d16? I am open to any suggestion that will give me the best recipe for hitting very low 1/4 miles times with out hitting the wallet hard.

P.S. - I am very much a force induction fan. One of my buddies suggested a ls swap becuase they handle boost nicely.

15.7 on a bolt on ex?
very impressive.
if you want boost i would reccomend an LS motor
it has low compression and will hold 8-9 psi daily if tuned correctly.

how much is your budget? that will help alot.

Also, What would my estimated 1/4 times be with the d16 with 8lb's boost, slicks, and gas shocks

You could get a greddy turbo kit and a good intercooler for around $2000, the other 500 could be put into a BOV and maybe cams or ignition....that'd be pretty quick....

yeah i would def have the time slip scaned because 15.7 is very hard to beleave i have a 94 civic with i/e and coil overs and out of around 30 runs down the track consistintly runing 16.0, 16.1 i hit 15.9 like 6 of the 30 times and a 15.7 with just i/e
just sounds retarded.but the stock d1.6z6 motor turbo runing 8 psi intercooled with the additional 2psi from the intercooler, the best run from that that i have seen was a 14.7 but the kid swore he had a blown head gasket. with slicks figue you drop around a half second. but the suspention on my friends car was done groundcontrol coilovers, tokico illumina shocks all around suspention stiffining bars. so i dont know figure it out

Alright, my 98 Civic had around 50k on it when I turboed it with a Greddy turbo kit(no intercooler). I was just running a d16y8 with no internal mods whatsoever. I have not yet had a chance to take it to the track, but I beat a 94 civic 4 door that has a b18c1 with a turbo on it (when we were both only running 5-6 psi). I also kept up with a 98 cobra mustang that had an Intake system, chip, and open headers (when I was running 8-9 psi). I believe that the SOCH motor is defenitely worth the money to turbo.... I did have a problem though.... I turned my boost up above 9 psi when racing a 300ZXTT with stage two upgrades... I was kicking his *** but he beat me to the end of the track because I blew the **** out of my headgasket.... I would recomend tearing down the block and building it properly if you plan to run high boost.... also run an intercooler if you intend to run more than 5-6 psi.

nice times! ....and yes I believe them. On my old motor, D16Z6 on my '93 Si H/B I pulled consistent 15.4@90mph, with I/H/E and fuel press reg, oh and the p/s off, no back seats/spare on yoko avid h4's (street tires). Dyno'd that setup at 122.5hp, 106tq.

Well, personally I say swap!! Start with a better base and build from there.

If it were between boosted D16 or B18B, I say LS!!!!!!!

but then again you must also realise the fuel pressure regulator, header and the large wait difference. you have a h/b he has an ex which can eaither be a sedan or coupe which waighs about 500 pounds more then you plus you droped waight by taking out seats and clearing out the trunk. i ran a 15.9 at 87 mph with i/e and a clear trunk and no spare on stock tires with 105 thousand on the motor, he has 25,000 more. and i ran consistantly 16.0 and 16.1. now a 15.4 as very well on the d16z6 i congradulate you. but i dont beleave the 15.7 with that work done sorry.

dont waiste your money building the stock motor the d series tran cant handle high boost you will go through trans every 3 to 4 months. you would be better with a turbo b16 more reliable or a turbo b18b run high boost very well.

keep in mind the budget. b16 swap plus turbo kit is already $3-4K
easier said than done.

but to build the stock motor to run high boost is pointless the trans is alot weaker which means more money dumped on new trans every few months and plus your talking 3-5 to build the motor pistins rods sleaving it starts getting very expensive. even more expensive then a b16. but fuc the b16, the b18b is so much cheeper and runs boost alot better then the b16.or what the fuc why not even get a b20 buy the block for 800 get a b trans intake m, exaust m, ecu, lincage, mounts, axels, full swap will cost around 2 g's and the compression is even lower then the LS, but thats just my openion. do what you want, their are so many different variations you can do with swaps.
