Default What function does a MAP sensor perform?

My Prelude is having Idle problems. It was mentioned to me to change the MAP sensor, will this help?

changing the map sensor(if its bad) will only smooth the idle if your misfiring, not if its jumping up and down, that would be your fitv or iacv. MAP sensor tells the computer how much gas to inject per injector pulse by sensing the manifold vac. higher the vac the more load your car is under. so the injectors inject more gas and keeps your car from leaning out.

the map sensor tells the ecu how much air is entering the throttle.

idle you should see around 25-26" of vacuum, full throttle should be just under just above 0"

Don't be worried if it is at 20 or 22. most Honda's I've seen were.

and at WOT there is no vacuum

It could be on the firewall or on top of the throttle body. H-series have them both ways...
