Stock map sensor...
How much psi is a stock map sensor good for? Im running 11 psi and my idle recently has rocketed up to 2.5-3 with a surging idle and my friend thinks it my stock map sensor..

Whats an easy way to check the vacuum lines, i've read something about carb cleaner but i guess i dont fully understand the concept. Map sensor isnt going to make my idle hunt?

Re: Stock map sensor... (Boostedb20EH2)
The stock sensor will probably TAKE well over 20psi (they are usually solid-state sensors), but only read up to ~11.2psi. A broken MAP sensor will make the ecu think it has more air in the manifold than there really is, making it very rich. Since its raising rpm rather than dropping below stock idle, more than likely its a bad vacuum leak. Its possible boost probably popped some hose off or possibly broke your pcv valve. You may also want to check your FITV to see if it needs adjustment.

Re: Stock map sensor... (HiProfile)
I'll check the FITV and the vacuum tomorrow. Any info on how to check the vaccum leak? Oh and do b20s even have a fitv.. At a quick glance i didnt see one

i have sen bad map sensors not reading vaccume. when they go bad they can read as if it's always seeing some boost even though your at idle and should be seeing vaccume.
they are right 11psi is max for stock, and going to much more can brake it for it to proeprly read vacume. if you had a spike maybe this caused the map to brake and not read vacume anymore.
I jsut let go a 3-bar map (spiked to 30 on my sohc) and it's doing the same thing as your. we tried to get my old stocker but it's busted too as we spiked to 15 once and it broke doing the same thing. (reads like 2-3psi of boost when ideling) I'm going to order a new 3.5bar that reads up to 50psi from a friend so it should solve my issues.

I boosted 15-20 for 2 yrs on my stock map sensor. I know many others have pushed theres to 15 also. Not saying yours aren't breaking, but you sure its a map sensor problem too?

It could be a number of different things it seems.
So the only way to find out the cause is to find the possibilities and rule them out one by one.
Seems all the "could be's" are in the post, time for Nick to start some trial and error!
And me....have all the answers? 2 words man......CHARGE PIPE......now back off

Re: (Boostedb20EH2)
mostlikly a vacume leak. spray carb cleaner or brake cleaner around the intake gasket, vacume hoses and throttle body gasket. if the idle changes you have a leak. unplug the iacv and see if the idle changes. also make sure your trhottle cable isn't stuck. also check your fpr vacume hose, pull it off, and see if fuel is coming out. many things can cause a high idle. have to start checking them off the list.
