Default TPS problem

Hey guys, i have searched and didnt find anyone with my same problem, anyways, i have a 94 h23a auto prelude, it is throwing a #7 CEL which is TPS. I tested the TPS and it was showing ~.2 at idle and ~3.02 WOT which i know are unacceptable to the ECU hence the code. Well i had another one on the old h23 i had to remove from this car and swap and put it on, this one got ~.3 at idle and ~2.5ish at WOT. I know that it is in the realm of possiblities that both of these could be bad, i dont remember a CEL from the old engine being in, but that has been a few years ago.

So to my question, how possible is it that these TPS are both bad or is there something else that i am overlooking. And before it is asked yes i am getting 5v from the power wire with it grounded both at the plug and body. This is also the only CEL code that is being thrown, i was getting a knock sensor code, but thats because it was broken in half, but i have replaced it with no recurrance of the code.

Thanks for any help and ill provide any more info that i can.

Oh yeah, the other problem it has is that it will just die out of nowhere, i am hoping this is due to the voltage problem with the TPS, but it will usually just start right back up and i can usually keep it going if it tries to bog down by giving it gas.

EDIT: one more question, i am now researching to get another TPS, should this be the same TPS that is in pretty much any honda? I have looked thru the lists and they dont say specifically the h23a and it looks like they just copy/paste the list from one to another.

Have you tried adjusting the TPS to get a different voltage?

I know Honda used the same TPS on many cars through the 90's, maybe even the late 80's/early 2000's. I got one from an old Accord at a junkyard and it was the same as my 95 H23 TPS. It's definately not H23 specific

Yeah, i had the screws loose and when i would go WOT i could move the TPS and get slightly different readings, but still not within the 4.5 range, it would get to the maxes that i listed earlier.

And yeah, ill check my TPS on my 97 Teg then, maybe it will be right and i can at least know that i have a good one in place to test with. Thanks for that info

The before i leave work bump... i know that i need to test with a known good TPS, but mainly wanting any other problems that could cause this car to die or for the TPS to get a wrong reading.

what happens when you plug just the TPS into the harness, and rotate it with your fingers? Can you see the full voltage range then?

also are you measuring 5 volts on the input wire with the tps plugged in or unplugged?

I had this problem when I was trying to put in a new tps for the first time and simply put it in. There's a certain way it goes in, as u twist it u should be able to feel a bit of resistance. So go back and make sure it's on and installed properly just to make sure.

Yeah, when i put it in i could turn it, but it still wouldnt get me in the right voltage range, the closest voltages that i got to correct were the ones i listed, without turning it i got like .2 at idle and 2.3ish WOT and yes it does have 5v from the input wire with it grounded to the output

I was trying o say that make sure u have the actual tps sensor in correctly. the first time I put a tps sensor I didn't know that you had o put it in a certain way than twist it to get it to read .5V at idle. I jus stuck it in and no matter where I turned it, i would onl go to abou half of the .5V. Make sure that when u put the sensor in that u can move it and then let go and it should spring back a bit.

Ahh, ok, sorry for the misunderstanding, i will give that a shot later today, hopefully it will work out right, do you think the problem i am having with the TPS would be the reason that it is just dieing like it is? I'm just really hoping that it is so i can get this thing back on the street.
