Screen in Dash!
Just thought I would bump this up since it's such a sweet mod. Does anybody have any sort of write up on this? I was thinking of fumbling through this myself but I would need something pretty comprehensive
Remove dash glass.
1. Remove screws in upper piece using a short screwdriver, then unclip and carefully pull out tweeter covers and upper piece.
2. Remove the dash glass screws (cant remember how many maybe 2 or 3)
3. Remove lower trim piece by unclipping from the passenger side and following it along the edge
4. unscrew and carefully remove trim between speedo and dash glass
5. pull out dash glass carefully
this leaves the inner dash exposed.

You're obviously going to need to obtain power from somewhere for the lcd - I would run a new wire from the battery to your lcd and dvd player.
I already have a subwoofer and amp in the boot and am going to power a boot mounted PC off the same 8 gauge wire.
You will also need a headunit with aux in unless the headunit itself can read a dvd...

Damn this is starting to sound more like something my amateur *** can't handle. I may try to buy all the parts and have my friends help me out. So I need a dvd player, a new head unit, and the lcd screen?
I suggest the 5.6 inch screens. 7 inch is a little big. For some screens, making it angled makes the color off, sometimes unviewable. Make sure you get a good TFT screen.
Here's how mine turned out.

1. yea it's pretty much the same height because it's widescreen...meaning it's longer than it is just a box...however the top gets a tad cut off...but i'm talkin millimeters.....
2. i had to cut the black plastic off of the back of the smoked peice of plastic. however it's smoked enough you cant see any of the crap back there besides what is lighting up
3. the clock hole is hardly even noticable</TD></TR></TABLE>
how much of the screen gets cut off with it being alittle taller, is the screen more angled because it is taller, how does that effect the veiwing, are the colors all good still even with the screen tilted?

Get a screen with a wide viewing angle and you should be OK.

This is a great post, I've been looking for it for quite some time!
I was actually thinking about putting in some extra gauges where those screens are mounted- like boost or oil temp or whatever... anyone seen this done?

I had a computer in my lude about 3 yrs ago. I went with the 7" where the CD player goes. I am currently upgrading the monitor to the 8" touchscreen.
http://www.mp3car.com is a good place to look if you are planning to put a computer in your car. It has misc items like DC/DC power supplies, touchscreen tv's, etc.

yeah the cobalts and C2's are both nice looking, they are also the most expensive gauges in the autometer line. but worth the $$

you could put xbox's and ps2's in your middle console, under a seat, or cut your glove box a little and put 'em there.
