ENGINE IDEAS
I have a 92 honda prelude it has a JDM F22b in it right now. The block is bad in the car and needs to be replaced. The top end of the engine is in great shape still. Can you suggest what i should do should i swap a whole new motor? Swap the block? And can some one tell me what motors and block and head combos will work?
search in the FAQ, theres threads on the hybrids, whats been done, diff motor specs. its really like a prelude wonderland of knowledge!
I tore the engine down to the block with a friend of mine because we were hearing a bad metal to metal gridning sound while turning the motor over by hand. The cylinder walls have a light coating of rust on them and 2 of the four of them have a couple small rough spots (divets) in them.

You might be able to hone it again or bore it slightly to repair the walls...maybe post some pics we could look at or have a machine shop look at it before you get a whole new engine...

That's something you will have to look at when it happens..most likely you would need new pistons to fit the new sized cylinder, but you may find some stock pistons that fit and use stock rods or you may have to get something aftermarket....and the thing with our FRM sleeves is they won't accept forged pistons.

Whats the go on those Mahle Gold pistons, don't they have a coating on them so they can be used even though they are forged?

Mahle golds are at 87mm bore. The DOHC F22B is 85mm with iron liners. That's a pretty big overbore.
I'd just get some 85.5mm OS F22A pistons and hone the block. Maybe replace the bearings if it looks like they need it.
