Mine is doing that too it hasnt jumped to 5 or 6 yet, But still when i am in idle it usually goes from 1 to 2 grand. i thought it might be doing that to warm itself up but still does it when it has been running for hours.I dont know whats wrong i thought it might b the ecu, I dont know any help would be appreciated.
mate its got to do with you vacume and your hoses or your injection is dirty.
i had that nad i too k it to honda nad they cleaned out my injection adn found a air hose unplugged.
somthibng simple.

I dug up this thread for you it turned out to be the fast idle valve circled in the pic, and it needed the plastic slider screwing down.

im having the same problem i got a 93 lude tho..
all the things excluding the clogged injectors is wrong but wont hurt to get them done lol
it can also be caused by low coolant and or air in the system..
id check your coolant level soon lol
but thats only for slight surges.. 1-2 grand
not the 1-5 grand like the other guy lol thats probably your floor mat getting caught lol.. seeen it happen.. car revs its *** off at like 5gs lol
kinda funny
(till you smack something)

yeah these ar eall probable causes.. theres like 400 things you can check but this guys having this problem all of a sudden cuz its cold..
can rule out alot of things... u can add fuel filter and filter sock if you really want to be hard core.. but usually something like that will give you this problem constantly.. this is happening only when cold....

hey whats man...
My prelude would idle real bad and even jump on the RPM scale while I was driving. The problem was a loose wire in the distributor cap, the wiring harness. I had to replace the ignition control module and then made sure that the insulator caps that are covering the wires in the distributor cap, had not been burned or exposing any of the wire connectors. After that, my prelude was working in top notch condition. I too, have a 93 prelude. mine is a SI. THis shoul dtake care of the problem. I had been trying to solve it for several months. And finally found the problem. Give it a try, It should be your solution.

I fixed mine today i thought it was the fast idle valve,I couldnt place it though so i took it to honda they said 270 dollars to replace it.I was like no and took it home unscrewed it and the screw practically fell in my hand so i tightned it put a new gasket on,put it all back on and so far its running real smooth.Saved myself 270 dollars
