So, I'm a new rider and I was going through this thread. It was funny at first, but then I started to notice some of you are some serious haters. I ride a Honda Rebel 250. It's my daily and its how I get to work.
When I ride to work or for fun I always wear my helmet, jackets, gloves, jeans, and shoes [boots for work]. I've ridden about maybe 5 times with just a t-shirt when I'm only riding a short distance to a friends house or whatever.
I honestly it'd be overkill for me to wear full gear to ride to work and such. I never push it hard when I just wear a t-shirt and I understand accidents aren't always the riders fault.
How many of you actually fully suit up every single time you ride? And if the answer is every single time, do you ride everyday or just once in awhile?

I ride pretty much every day and I always wear jacket, helmet, gloves, and boots at least. If I'm going on long rides I put on my JR Alter Ego's. The only time I don't wear my boots is when I ride to work cause it's a 1.5 mile ride in city traffic.
Back on topic; this thread still rocks, keep em coming!!

Yeah i noticed this too. They do have a point because you never know what can happen in any situation whether it be going to work/friend's house or going a few hundred miles. But with the weather i also think it would be overkill to wear everything. It's basically your decision and if something happens when you aren't wearing gear you will get looked down upon. But if you're just a skinny scrawny looking kid just wearing a t-shirt, hating would be permitted.

I've ridden once in 3 years without a jacket, and it was from my apartment to a parking lot three blocks away so my room mate could learn to ride his bike. Otherwise I always go out with a helmet, jackets, gloves, and boots. I leave a pair of shoes at work so I don't have to bring a bag. If i'm going out for a ride just to ride I wear my 2-piece leather suit.
I wear my gear every time, even if it's just "to a friend's house" or whatever, because I've read/seen too many stories where the person thought they weren't going very far so why bother, and then they ended up totally F'd.
I watched a guy purchase a bike at a dealership, and buy a helmet just so he could get on the road. He made it 50 feet from the entrance, then he looped it and came walking back in to the dealership all scuffed up asking if he could return the bike.
You never know what's going to happen, so prepare for that.

The only time I'm not wearing a coat or helmet on my bike is when I take it off the trailor for a trackday. I used to work with a mechanic, the clutch slipped and he flipped back hitting his head, killing himself. If its 2 feet, or 200 miles, I put all my gear on.

Thats the thing bro. Accidents are just that, ACCIDENTS, ie, not planned. No one plans to go down. A majority of all accidents happen within 5 miles of home, hell there are tons of stories of people getting hit just a block or two away
If you could predict when you go down, then you could just as easily not ride that day.
I only ride a few miles to work and fully suit up. When I have to go run errands while at work, only thing I leave out is my overpants

If it's 90+ degrees out and i'm just going to school i probably wouldn't wear my jacket. But usually if it's too hot out, i would probably just take my car and not risk riding without a jacket.
Word, I agree with everything everyone is saying. But honestly, I never plan on purchasing a pair of boots simply because of the bike I choose to ride. I see most guys on cruisers with nothing more than a helmet and I always think they are crazy.
And just to further clear my name, haha, my brother has a 2006 Yamaha R6 that I could jump on and ride whenever I wanted too. But I decided to be smart about my biking experience and bought a simple bike to learn on. I'm hoping to get a Honda CBR 600RR next summer and I plan on purchasing a full riding suit so I can push it hard and track some too.
ps- I'm getting a CBR because I'm honda fo lyfe. UCB, this is your opportunity to hate on me for having a gutted hatchback.

yeah a mesh jacket would be good for this weather, anyone wearing a full suit in this weather i think is risking heat exhaustion which would be worse.....i think that everyone is just calling anyone a squid now its seems, to me i only thought of person that was a squid was someone that was racing around fast or stunting with out any protection, you could have 1billion pics on here cuz everyone rides in a t shirt no matter where you go even harley guys, i like to see someone go call a hard core harley dude a squid....
