Default d16y8 swap??

so my sister got hit in her 97 civic ex and it got totaled. RIP. i was wondering if i could swap its d16y8 into my 91 civic si hb. has anyone done it before? do i need a odo modfication? how about the tranny? difficulty level (harder than a b16 swap). stuff like that.
one more question - what is the differance between the d16y8 and the d16y5

Well you will want to use a cable tranny like the one that came from your car along with a clust and flywheel either from the ex or your Si motor.

You have to use your Si engine wiring harness. If you would like for your vtec to work get an obd0 obd1 harness witha p28 computer.

Also you need to use your shiftlinkage and mounts. Its a pretty straigh forward swap. Just as easy as any b series swap. But you dont have to dent your right side frame rail as in a b series swap into an ef series car.

why go with something so small like a d series engine save up and at least get the b16a or ls unless your engine is messed up and you need to save money for another then i would. any ways i put one in my friends crx and it was a lil better that the d15 single cam but not much it only took us about 2 hrs we used the ecu with the d16 with an upgrade good luck tell us how it goes

hp on a y8 is 125 stock 103-4 lbs tq I had my d16y8 putting down 146hp before I blew it.

Yes it is a true vtec, and my lil single kicked ***.

It will be fast again..oh yes, It will be fast again.

The D16Y8 is 127 hp, 107 ft lb of torque. It has VTEC on the intake cam profiles only, not exhaust. GREAT engine for an ef... I had mine running consistent 15.3's with I/E, P28 ECU, Si tranny in an 89 CRX Si, with one 15.2.

I'm doing the y8. Or is it y7? Hell, i don't even know what i'm doing. I have NEVER done this before, but so far it's cool. I'm not building a rocketship. Well, maybe i am, but space is fun. Racer613, what did you do to get your hundred fourty some odd horsepower? And was the blow a result of any mods/mechanics of the motor, or did your foot just get stuck? Thanks yO.
