Re: battery in the back (Mr_Si-R)
I put mine where the spare tire was, plenty of room, and no one sees the battery. I'm running a optima sealed battery, and only run a box at the track.

Re: battery in the back (si90rex)
the relocation above is illegal for any sanctioned racing, and unsafe.
first, i wouldn't trust that tie-down for ****. having seen a battery become a projectile in an accident, that isn't cutting it. the bottom is just as important- big *** fender washers at a minimum (spare tire anchor works too).
second, that is not a sealed battery, and therefore requires a box that is vented outside the car. make sure you still secure the battery (not just the plastic box, which will break).
there are plenty of threads around showing proper ways to do what you are trying to do. check them out, and note proper cable sizing and routing

Re: battery in the back (Newark Built Kandy SiC-RX)
don't relocate your batt its such a pia you need to do a cut off switch for it to be legal at the track and for a street car that sucks! it makes your car so easy to steal. I have an optima in the truck and it just looks shitty and I had no cut off.. I ordered an odyssey and I'm putting my batt back under the hood.
its up to you though just make sure you use 3/8 bolts a box and a sealed batt is a good idea.. don't forget your cutoff!

Re: (The Up Garage)
If you get a smaller battery like a PC680 or something, you can put it in the cargo box if you want to maintain a full trunk. Hell, I even had a D51 Optima Yellow top in there on my last car. The PC680 is perfect because it fits right in without cutting the box.
Either way, you should have a sealed battery back there. If you're going to relocate it, don't half *** it like that, do it right. You can get the PC680 for like 70 bucks, or if you want a full-sized yellow top, maybe 120/130 or so.
