Bad clutch = not getting in gear?
This is the deal, when racing, i will shift at about 35 mph (no tach) which is about 7k rpms in first gear and I won't be able to go into second gear. It's rock solid and then I wait about a second and then it will do it. Now, my car still has the stock clutch 110k miles (88=shittiest oem clutch).
But do you think not being able to get into one gear at high rpms is a clutch problem or is it a tranny problem (4 speed)?
side Q: is the 4 speed L3 just shitty just because it is a 4 speed and not an Si? Because I consider 110k low miles
Btw, my clutch slips after a couple hard take offs/burn outs (which i dont do anymore )

It could be your clutch, if its slipping I would replace it, but personally, I would get the 5speed tranny with a new clutch and just drop that in, 4 speeds I dont really know about..

Sounds to me like your sychros are gone, at least thats what mine did to me after they went. At first if i pulled really hard on it it would crunch into gear but after a while it just wouldnt go in, ended up being the synchros. Just my 2 cents.
