Default double clutch

ok, this might be a newb question but is double clutching bad for a lsd or tranny in general.

double clutch - while moving pressing gas and clutch at the same time and then letting go of the clutch at higher rpms in same gear.

thanks..

Your definition of what double clutching is wrong. All you are referring to is revving it up and letting the clutch out while moving. A burnout is done the same way, but at a standstill.

Double clutching is a technique that is used in transmissions that don't have synchros. Many Diesel trucks use sychnoless transmissions. A synchro acts a clutch that matches the speed of the gears used in a constant mesh tranny.

Without synchros the driver must do this by matching the revs for the next selected gear. This is done when upshifting by:

Letting off the throttle.

Pushing in the clutch.

Moving the gear level to neutral.

Letting out the clutch and pushing it back in again. (This gets the next gear up to speed so the dog teeth don't crunch and make a grinding noise)

Shifting to the next gear.

When downshifting after you let the clutch out in nuetral you would rev up the engine to the appropriate speed so that gear speed are matched.

As for your question, yes anything that shocks the transmission is going to fatique it.

what you are doing is called a clutch kick, used by many so called drifters. yes it is hard on a tranny, just like a launch, but not as bad, because with a launch the car is sitting there, you dumo it, and try to move 2000 + pounds, what you are doing is kinda the same, but car is moving so a little less strenuous on the tranny

On a bike we call this a wheelie.....Some times we call it a loop-out.
