Y5 block/Z6 head/chipped P06 ECU - vtec does not activate
I have a 96 civic ex, 1.6 vtec motor. Header, exhaust and intake. Stock ECU is a p2p. Vtec activates at 5500 rpm.
I purchased an obd1 ECU which is a p06 converted to vtec, chipped. It had a basemap chip for b16 vtec. Which had launch control, shift light, vtec at 3500 rpm and red line at 8500. I installed it in my car and only the launch control works.
I then ordered a basemap for my stock 1.6 vtec. And also only the launch control works. On both basemap vtec does not activate.
I was told that whoever converted the ECU to vtec, did not do a good job on it. Because regardless of what basemap it has, vtec should still work.
I'm just looking for answers of what could it be.

re: Y5 block/Z6 head/chipped P06 ECU - vtec does not activate
to check your new obd1 p06 ecu has been converted to vtec you'll have to open it up and compare it to the pics in the link below - make sure all these components are visible on your ecu and that nothing has been burnt out
11F0 Vtec Conversion Kit Instructions
if that all seems fine then you'll need to post more details about your engine/wiring/basemap configuration

Re: Y5 block/Z6 head/chipped P06 ECU - vtec does not activate
Why can't you put the P2P ECU back in and test drive the car to see if VTEC works ??? The next question is why did you go through all of this trouble when a stock D16Y8 will make similar (if not more) power ???
Bottom line: If you don't have any codes as RonJ has asked you to clarify twice... your old ECU should operate VTEC. If it does, then your "chipped" ECU is the likely problem.
