Default Why my 93 Ex Sedan is so slow

Well I just bought the car 2 weeks ago. And i've noticed it's very slow during accelleration and I have to floor the gas to gain some torque.

I think the engine is stock d16z6 and I think this is 1.6 non vtec ones. I used to drive auto mitsu mirage 1.5, toyota corolla 12v, nissan sentra, etc... and i really notice this civic is slow. and yeah it has auto tranny. i don't want manual coz i'm sick of driving manual.

But now it makes me think. I don't know if I can tolerate this slowness. I don't race or anything like that but it's way too slow man.

Is there anything I can do? car is totally auto stock 93 ex sedan. will a 95 vtec manual be a little bit faster? or the swap is the only option i have?

thanks

your car is vtec

if you want to make it faster turbo or supercharge it and let it be

if you think your ex is slow try driving my cx....

pardon me for lack of knowledge...so will the turbo change everything eventhough it's got stock engine and auto tranny?

im up for that if that will do the trick.

it is the fact that its a auto. My 95 ex sedan 5 speed is quick for what it is all I done is Intake Header and exhaust and I also gutted my cat.

not really a ferrari but something that can pull hard at least... i had a lancer 1.5 auto prior to this and this civic is slow compare to that one.

d16z6's are single cam vtec. any stock automatic civic is going to be tourqueless...thats just how hondas are. ya my cx is even slower

Well, it's a D16Z6. It IS a VTEC engine. The ones that are NOT VTEC are the D15B7 and D15B8 which come in the 1992-1995 Honda Civic DX and CX respectively.

If you want to give it a bit more acceleration, swap in a 1992-2000 Honda Civic EX 5-speed transmission. You can buy a pedal assembly for $50-$75, the transmission for $100-$200 and the other doodads that you need. Total cost, if you do it yourself, shouldn't be more than $350.

It WILL be more fun to drive and have a little more oomph.

But, the EX Sedan is kind of heavy. Power windows, doors, sunroof, etc...etc...etc...add on the weight.

Your basic bolt-ons such as header, intake and exhaust won't do much. If you want a good boost in power, turbo is the ONLY way to go.

It's called tuning. I've seen stock engines push 10lbs TUNED and nothing ever happened.
