thet say 45 mph is the most fuel efficient travel speed. have heard life of
300,000 plus

^ What the **** are you talking about?!? o.0
Most cars are set to have the best gas mileage at 65mph. But i dont know how it works in km.

wtf? i always thaught it was the highest shift, with lowest RPM...
RPM is what consumes gas, so the higher RPM is... the more gas consumed... there for having the least RPM in last shift would be best.

This is true and also alittle off. You have to understand if your in 5th gear at 1000 RPM you would be wasting more gas to bring the car up to RPM speeds. Usually when your in 5th gear at 65mph your doing very good rpm speeds.

at the speed that you can cruise the fastest with the least amount of gas......
at the speed that you can cruise in 5th gear while pressing on the gas pedal the least.

you really think a 100 hp vehicle can cruise at 900 rpm ? you would have the pedal FLOORED dumping all the fuel it could to make up for the shitty power it would produce at such a low rpm

Would you think it would be fuel efficient to shift into 5th gear at like 30mph and floor the gas? I mean the rpms would be pretty low right? But you'd actually be wasting gas because you'd be going nowhere fast.
Fuel efficiency also has to do with how much you press on the throttle. If you had a vacuum gauge, you'd be able to tell exactly how hard you're pressing on the throttle.
I cruise on the freeway at like 65mph in 5th gear with the rpms just slightly under 3k and the vacuum at almost 20 In.Hg

For example, it wouldn't be fuel efficient at all to shift gears at 2k rpms because you will need to get on the gas more in the next gear just to keep the car up to speed.

Re: what is the most gas efficient highway driving speed (frostcivic)
all i know is with my b18c and 4.785 final drive.. 80mph is close to 5000rpm and its NOT very efficent.
when i had my D16Z6.. 60-65mph on the freeway i got great gas mileage. anything faster like 70-80 its dropped a little.

ah, misunderstanding here, i didnt mean be in 5th the whole time... i just ment when ur cruising...

i know that with my ZC, my peak fuel efficiency is around 4000 rpm in 5th gear. cruising at 80 at 3500 nets me a little over half a tank used on a 190 mile trip. the extra 500 rpm saves me an 1/8th of a tank easy. i did notice on my dyno graph that the car has 10 more hp over that rpm range...

Re: (Sobe_Death)
I would have to say, since the power isnt created so low, it has to do with a balance between power of the motor and RPM... if it has little power at a certain RPM, you will need more gas to keep it going right? However if it is most powerful to fuel amount, at a little higher RPM well... BAH
Forget this all... just keep it at like 60-65, or 55 on certain roads...
As long as your car doesnt seem to lug or fall behind, and you arent mashing the peddle, you should be ok. I dont think a certain RPM matters as much as the actual amount of gas you are putting on the petal. So when the car seems to cruise easily, let off the petal some, and see if you can stay at that speed.
I am probably too confusing.. Just try this... for each tank, drive at 55, 60, 65, 70 (if legal) and see which appears better... Be sure to drive about the same as well, no racing or mashing or just city or just highway, pretty even drives for each of the rides... then report what you find.. I will too, if you care.. give me a few weeks.
