Optimal RPM for shift/cruise?
I just started driving stick on my new 93 prelude si and I was wondering what would be the best RPM for gas efficiency and to prevent much engine wear? And what RPM should I be shifting at for normal driving? Right now I shift at about 3k. I was reading somewhere on here that our preludes like to rev high. But I'm pretty sure the h22's redline at 7500 compared to my h23's 6500, so I'm not sure if that statement is valid or not.
The engine has about 137k miles so it's gettin up there.

3k is fine..i shift at 3000-3700. i just like to hit boost
3k is a nice number..i kind of realized that if i shifted at lower than 3k..my gas mileage sucked..i used to shift at like 2700 or so..i got 300 miles for like ~14 gallons of gas. now im getting about ~330 for ~14 gallons of gas

if you want the best mpg, shift around 2500RPMs....if you shift around 2500RPMs, stay the hell outta my way because i don't want to stuck behind your slow ***....for a comparison, i shift anywhere between 4250 and 6500 and get 24mpg in my H22....so don't feel like you need to baby a sport coupe....it's not worth the frustration of going nowhere quickly

Also, for better mileage don't WOT it everywhere. At Wide Open Throttle the ECU dumps in more fuel to keep the possibility of detonation down. part throttle = leaner = less gas.
It also would not hurt to check your tire pressure...

Thank you all for your replies. Seems like you get the best of both worlds by having a 4 cyl sporty car, gets ya there quick and still good on the gas.
Thanks for the WOT tip. I'm still learning to drive the thing even so I'm not going to be super speedy all over the place. I also don't race or any of that stuff. I'd hit the track if I wanted to.

i shift between 2500-3000 just take your time getting up to the speed limit. I dont care if people go around me, but if you haul *** and ride my ****** bumper YOU WILL BE BRAKE CHECKED! My car is bone stock now i have nothing to lose, just thought u ****** bastards that tailgate should know.

Haha, thank you, and I dislike tailgaters as well. So gas mileage isn't all RPM haha? Like if I am heavy on the pedal yet stay below 3500 i'm gonna get screwed for gas? Sorry for my ignorance, still learning...

Get JDM headlights if you want to replace yours. Ebay headlights are crap.

Obviously why it used to be the national speed limit before the law that allowed each state to decide its own. I wish it would go back to fifty five so that i would stop getting passed.

I've always read it's closer on average to 33... im sure it depends on a lot of different things though

you'll get the best fuel efficiency with sloooow acceleration without reaching high rpms especially with vtec which eats gas.
