Re: what kind of tranny u run on sohc turbo (d15nonvtec)
the gearing in the rare and expensive jdm d15b tranny is exactly the same as the ex/si tranny. i'm considering one myself, but i can't find one for under $500, and even at that price it's difficult. plus you never know about the condition of it.
you don't want to run a cx / vx / dx / lx tranny; i bet you still won't have traction, you'll just be slow.
the first gears in all the trannys are the same. the second gear in the cx / vx / dx / lx trannies is slightly longer. i'm not sure if you could put that gear in there, but even if you could it would be pointless; you need traction in first gear, first.
your best bet is to get a quaife for your tranny, get a traction bar, do an equal length drive setup (i don't know much about this yet), solid motor mounts, and *learn how to modulate*.

Here's Mista Bone's webpage on D-series trannies. It might help you out somewhat. http://home.cinci.rr.com/mistab0ne/tranny.html

What about the ZC's that came in the older integ's.(like my friends '89) They are D series motors and they come with equal length driveshafts but I don't know about the gearing.

I'm pretty sure that all of the first gears are NOT the same unless they have very different final drives.
EDIT: I have a dx tranny still and still have no traction in first or second gear. Either get the d15b tranny or throw a lsd in the tranny you have. y8 or d15b will always be the answer to a d series transmission question without building a hybrid.

I'm running a y8 tranny with a quaife and traction in first is ok. I am going to throw my polyurethane motor mounts in there and see what kind of difference that makes.

I'm wondering about this too. Cause in Honda-Tuning's Budget Boost segment...they went with a ZC tranny...but never said why. Anyone know the gearing for a ZC tranny? Do all ZC trannies in the 1st gen integ have equal length driveshafts?

go look at mista bones tranny page... the finals are different, but the gears are exactly the same.
also, doesn't the avc-r boost controller let you change the amount of boost for each gear? someone told me it does, but i really don't know. if that is true, get it and turn the boost down in first gear.

1st gear on all d-series is the exact same, but they do have different final drives. I would do the following :
1) Stop trying to drag launch on the street.
2) Replace compliance bushing on front lcas.
3) Investigate an LSD.
4) Take a look at traction bars (www.jimfab.com)

Umm, i suggest an LSD, Z10 radius rods, an Ingalls engine dampener and a boost controller with scramble boost. These 4 items will solve your problems.
BTW, the 4.25/6 final drive and gearing of the y8 trans is perfect for boost, IMO
96-00 DX 2DR and 4DR had 4.06
96-00 CX/DX hatch had 3.72
