what kinda tranny do I have
I was wondering how you can tell what kinda tranny is in your car. Its a d-series tranny in a 95 civic dx hatch but its not the original engine/tranny combo it has a jdm d15b and a 5-speed the car used to be an automatic and i was told the engine was outta a ec/si but i dont think so cause i can run 2nd gear to almost 90mph and never even top third gear. any help would be nice thanks guys

I think there is supposed to be like a sticker on the tranny somewhere that you can see if you look straight down at it from your engine bay. I know mine has a sticker, but mine's B-series. I'm thinking it should have a sticker thou. It's probably going to be a 3 digit code of letters and numbers.

2nd gear your at 90!?!?
Just above the filler plug is a set of numbers
P20/A000 is for DX/CX/VX
P20/B000 is for EX/Si
im gonna go ahead and guess that you have a cx or vx tranny for sure

This is wrong. All 92-95 trannsmission are 's20', and 96-0 are 's40'.

so how does that make the above info wrong?
yes the 92-95 versions are S20/A000 or S20/B000 just like 93ejay1 said.
and yes the 96-00 versions are S40....
BTW, 90mph in second is right for the VX/CX trans.

If you happen to look at the casting code, located near the oil fill plug..........
S40 = P4A casting code
S20 = P20
L3 = PL3
90 in 2nd is CX/VX fer sure.
