Default vtec wont kick

i just bought a 95 hatch with a b20b bottom end with a b16 head and i was driving it the vtec wont kick in, im not sure if its the vtec solenoid or what. as i was looking around i noticed i didn't have my primary o2 sensor and i was wondering if that could be the problem also. let me know what you guys think.

yeah step 1 is letting us know what the CEL is on for (could be multiple codes). Also, check your oil, it sounds dumb i know but better safe than sorry considering you just bought the car and i assume know very little about it.

since its a frank swap make sure its getting enough oil to the head is there any oil lines going to the head or anything? check the ecu maybe he gave you a non v ecu, also make sure vtec is actually wired in, there is soo many things it could be just start trouble shooting

there are several things that could cause this and i list some of them...
- bad oil pressure (you tapped the head wrong, dowel pins off, oil feed line ran wrong)
- bad ecu (check your cel codes)
- you didn't wire VTEC... link on how to
- bad VTEC solenoid (check to see how much voltage you have at the solenoid)
- low on oil
etc...

Sounds like the wires arnt in tach, plus low oil on b20 oil pumps wont surge enough pressure to vtec and then lead to not letting the pressure lock up vtec to engage. Make sure your pressure switch and solenoid have power and the car is warm. Vtec never works right when the engines cold.

the oil pump should not make a difference even though it is smart to run a GsR/ITR oil pump, 22t water pump and a timing belt
