VTEC QUESTION: Can a Vtec work W/O a Vtec ECU?
Hi guys, I have a LS/Vtec on my car. Some guys told me that I don't have to run a Vtec ECU by connecting the Vtec selenoid to the Apexi VAFC with the LS ECU. Is this true?

Yes,
you will need a rpm activated switch to connect to the VTEC Solnoid and the VAFC to adjust the fuel for the higher comsumption rate once VTEC is activated.
Personally, I'd use a VTEC ECU since there are ignition adjustments as well.

I got a chipped P28 ECU, probably need to use it then. The reason why I wanted to run the LS ecu is because it is tuned by XS engineering with a 9100 Redline

If you already got a chipped P28 ECU why dont u just have someone chip it so that you can redline at 9k with the correct fuel map... just make sure your engine is built for it though...

you can run a chipped p28 ecu, and or get an rpm activation switch...you dont need a vtec ecu to run vtec....just an oil line and soleniod...

higher redline=less horsepower on stock motors. and a ls ecu that was tuned was tuned FOR A LS AND for that motor swaping it over to a vtec motor even with everything else would be stupid

A friend of mine put an LSVTEC into his 98 LS teg, and for a while just had VTEC hooked to a toggle switch, not the best arrangement, but it worked.
